Island cars take the worst of it
An island vehicle is surrounded by salt air on every side with almost no tree cover, which is about as hard as it gets on a polycarbonate lens. Cars out here haze noticeably faster than the same car parked five miles inland.
Most of what I see on the island is second homes and rentals, where a car might sit under open sky for weeks at a stretch. Sitting is worse than driving: nobody's rinsing the salt off, and the sun never stops.
North Carolina's annual safety inspection covers headlights among the items checked, so unlike South Carolina there's a yearly point where somebody looks at them.
